FEBRUARY - COUNTRY LORE

If the cat in February lies in the sun, it will creep to the grate in March.

I grew up in the country and often heard the following words of wisdom from my grandparents:

If February bring no rain 'tis neither good for grass or grain.

Much February snow a fine summer doth show.

February fill dyke, be it black (i.e. rain) or be it white (i.e. snow),

As the day lengthens, so the cold strengthens.
