I grew up in the country and often heard the following words of wisdom from my grandparents:
If February bring no rain 'tis neither good for grass or grain.
Much February snow a fine summer doth show.
February fill dyke, be it black (i.e. rain) or be it white (i.e. snow),
As the day lengthens, so the cold strengthens.
