TREE LIFE - DURHAM BOTANIC GARDENS


The above is a log from a Beech Tree felled in January 2005. The tree was badly damaged in a storm on 
8 January 2005 due to large bracket fungus.
The picture below gives a list of historic events by growth rings. The blue tags on the right depict events in the life of the tree dating from 1848 to 1993 when the Cathedral was 900 years old. The rings on the left give a record of events in its life from 1851 to 1984.
