VICTORIAN WASH DAY POEM

In my childhood Monday was known as wash day. The Victorians had a poem about the natural order of washing days.  I was once told never to wash any clothes on New Years Day as it was believed you would wash someone out of the family.

They that wash on Monday
Have all the week to dry.
They that wash on Tuesday
Are not so much awry.
They that wash on Wednesday
Are not so much to blame,
They that wash on Thursday
Wash for very shame.
They that wash on Friday
Wash in sorry need.
They that wash on Saturday
Oh they are sluts indeed.
