THE GREEN MAN

Who is the Green Man?  Often labelled a 'grotesque' or a 'gargoyle', the Green Man can be found all over Western Europe and parts of Asia and North Africa. He can be found hidden in the texts of great epics and peering down from roofs of great cathedrals of Europe. This green man can be seen residing quite happily in an old holly tree in my back garden. He is just one of the objects people try to find on their visit to my open day in the summer.Lady Llangwm first used the term Green Man to describe the head at Llangwym, likening it to the Green Man or Jack in the Green of the inn signs and the May Day processions.  Figures called Green Men went about in procession during the Middle Ages and were covered in foliage and greenery.
