JESUS BIDS US SHINE & SUNBEAMS

When I was little I attended Sunday School at The Hurst Methodist Church, Kingsley, every Sunday morning and then again in the afternoon. After the morning school I went with my dad to the other Methodist Church in the village called Blakelees where he was Sunday School Superintendent.
We sang lots of choruses at the Hurst and one of my favourites was:
"Jesus bids us shine, with a pure clear light, like a little candle burning in the night,
In this world of darkness, so we must shine, you in your small corner, and I in mine".

Another was:
"Jesus wants me for a sunbeam to shine for him each day, in every way try to please him at home, at school at play, a sunbeam, a sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, a sunbeam, a sunbeam, I'll be a sunbeam for him".
Such simple words but if we all tried to shine like sunbeams the world would be a brighter place.

Unfortunately, many of these old choruses have been forgotten. I have found many of the words from these choruses I sang many years ago helpful both in times of joy and sadness.  I have always been grateful for the Christian upbringing I enjoyed.  In times of trouble I have found many of the words the old hymn writers used have helped.
