MORNING HYMN - JESUS SHALL REIGN

Last evening we attended the first Wesleyan Guild meeting of 2013 at the Hurst Methodist Church, Kingsley. We had an illustrated talk about Frodsham and its past. At the beginning of the meeting, which are held monthly, it is customary to sing a hymn and listen to a short talk or prayer. Last night began with the chairman telling us about the verse mentioned in an earlier blog entitled 'The Man stood at the Gate of the Year', the hymn we sang was the following and everyone sang and the sound of voices harmonising as they sang was a real treat and I felt the power of the Holy Spirit amongst us.

Jesus shall reign where'er the sun
Doth his successive journeys run;
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till suns shall rise and set no more.

For Him shall endless prayer be made,
And praises throng to crown His head;
His name like sweet perfume shall rise
With every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their young hosannas to His name.

Blessings abound where'er He reigns;
The prisoner leaps to lose his chains;
The weary find eternal rest;
And all the sons of want are blest.

Let every creature rise and bring
Its grateful honours to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth prolong the joyful strain.
