VISIT TO MUCH WENLOCK

We have had a pleasant weekend in our motor home staying in a Caravan Club site CL near Church Stretton. On Saturdaywe visited Much Wenlock, home of Wenlock Olympian Games. It is a very pretty town and famous for its Priory.
It was here that Dr Penny Brookes (180901895) founded the Wenlock Olympian Games on classical principles and inspired the Fench Baron Pierre de Coubertin to stage the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. The organisers of the London 2012 Olympic Games have recognised the town's role by naming the mascot for the event 'Wenlock'.
