TRIP TO HARLECH

On Saturday we visited Harlech. Here is a picture of the Castle which was built by Edward I (1283-1290). It was the last Castle to fall to the Paliamentarians in the Civil War. Once a war machine to suppress the Welsh the castle is now a romantic tourist attraction and a World Heritage Site.

The statue of "The Two Kings" illustrates a story in the Mabinogi, the medieval Welsh prose romances. It is a reminder of the cost of conflict and depicts the return of Bendigeidfran with the body of his son Llyr, slain in the battle with Matholwch. According to the story he set out from Harlech to Ireland, to rescue his sister Branwen from her cruel treatment in Ireland.
We enjoyed a tasty lunch in a tea shop with lovely views across to the sea and the castle on the right.
Little White Rabbit enjoyed meeting these two pretty young ladies.
Peter Rabbit and Flopsy Bunny also wanted to be in the picture
I hadn't been to Harlech for about 18 years and was surprised to find the garden nursery which was there the last time we visited. The owner said she would be moving soon to be nearer her family. We had a look round her garden and purchased three plants. If I won the lottery I would buy the place.

Unfortunately St David's Hotel is now a ruin and is about to be demolished. We stayed there on our last visit.
