MAUNDY THURSDAY

Today is Maundy Thursday, this is the day that Christians remember Jesus meeting with his friends for supper, after supper Jesus washes the feet of his friends. This song reminds us of this:

Jesu, Jesu,
fill us with your love,
show us how to serve
the neighbours we have from you.

Kneels at the feet of his friends,
silently washes their feet,
master who acts as a slave to them.

Neighbours are rich folk and poor,
neighbours are black folk and white,
neighbours are nearby and far away.

These are the ones we should serve,
these are the ones we should love
All these are neighbours to us and you.

Kneel at the feet of our friends
silently washing their feet,
this is the way we should live with you.

MORNING HYMN - I HEARD THE VOICE OF JESUS

The following hymn is not sung much these days but still relevant. I grew up in a house where hymns were often sung and I have found inspiration fromthe words of the hymn writers all my life. The following hymn is a favourite of mine and I thought appropriate as this is Easter week.

I heard the voice of Jesus say:
'Come unto me and rest;
lay down, O weary one, lay down
your head upon my breast'.
I came to Jesus as I was,
weary and worn and sad,
I found in him a resting-place,
and he has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say;
'Behold, I freely give
the living water; thirsty one,
stoop down and drink and live'.
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say;
'I am this dark world's Light;
look unto me, your morn shall rise,
and all your day be bright'.
I looked to Jesus, and I found,
in him my star, my sun;
and in that light of life I'll walk,
till travelling days are done.

COLD WEEKEND IN NORTH WALES

It was cold and snowy on Friday and there weren't many people out
On arriving in Colwyn Bay the seagulls were active

Sit up Daffodil you will get a bad back
It was a cold day in Colwyn Bay (that rhymes!)
Arriving in Llandudno there is snow on the Great Orme

It's too cold for a paddle today.

TODAY'S THOUGHT

Happiness is a butterfly which, when pursued,
is always beyond our grasp, but which if you sit
down quietly, may alight upon you.

CHILD'S VERSE - THE NORTH WIND

The following is a few lines from a poem I learned many years ago which sprang to mind this morning

The North Wind doth blow and we shall have snow and what will poor Robin do then poor thing, he'll fly to the barn to keep himself warm and hide his head under his wing, poor thing

SNOWY FRIDAY

There were plenty of ducks to feed

See you soon, not sure where we are off to next

MORNING HYMN - PRAY FOR A WORLD

Pray for a world where every child
finds welcome in a sheltered place,
where love is tender, undefiled
and firmness intertwines with grace.

Pray for a wold where passion's fire
burns not in force or careless lust,
where God's good gift of deep desire
is safe in arms of faith and trust.

Pray for a nation just and fair
that seeks the welfare of us all,
where leaders guide with prudent care
and nurture life for great and small.

Pray for a world where all have voice
and none will batter, rape, abuse.
Till then, may all have rightful choice
and pray for wisdom as they choose.

WEDNESDAY'S THOUGHT OF THE DAY - HUMILITY

I will conceal the good that I have done
to others, while advertising the good that
others have done to me.

VISIT TO SALISBURY INCLUDING CATHEDRAL

Last weekend we visited my brother and sister in law who live in Berkshire and enjoyed several trips, one to Salisbury where we visited The Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Salisbury is unique amongst medieval English cathedrals having been built in 38 years (1220-1258) in a single architectural style, early English Gothic. The tower and spire (Britain's tallest) were added about 50 years later.

This was a very interesting font

The Cathedral is a living church and a place of prayer. As the Cathedral Church of the Salisbury diocese it is Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is also a centre of ilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
