NORTH WEST AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY

Every year The Hurst Methodist Church supports a charity. This year's charity for us is The North West Air Ambulance Charity.

On Tuesday night Harry Watson and his wife (from Chester) came to give a talk and slide presentation. It was a very interesting talk.

The North West Air Ambulance Charity relies almost entirely on donations from the general public yet it offers a vital service seven days a week,365 days a year.

It costs more than £4 million a year to operate two helicopters, the NWAA covers all major incidents and areas that have poor and restricted access.

On average the NWAA is called out five times a day and can rise to ten in the summer.

On average it takes the Air Ambulance just 14 minutes from take off to deliver highly trained paramedics and sophisticated on board life saving equipment to the scene of an incident. And wherever it lands the helicopter is never more than 10 minutes away from the nearest appropriate hospital, overcoming problems of distance, congestion and access.

The helicopters travel at 150 mph, cover an area of 5500 square miles, look after a population of nearly 8 million people, and transfer critically ill patients between hospital.

It is reassuring to know that if we have an accident, especially in the hills or other remote places the Air Accident is available to rescue us.
